Meeting Description:

The general theme of the conference is ''X-Disciplinarity in Multilingualism
Research''. It is a commonplace that bi-/multilingualism is a complex
phenomenon that can and should be explored from many angles. This conference
seeks to take advantage of this fact by demonstrating the evident value of
diverse angles in multilingualism research as well as by interrogating the
potentials of x-disciplinarity more generally. We invoke the notion of
''x-disciplinarity'' as an umbrella term useful for covering a wider array of
kindred approaches to knowledge production. Here, ''x'' may be understood as a
placeholder to a variety of prefixes: multi-, cross-, inter-, trans-, even
post- and anti-disciplinarity. The conference theme will be reflected
primarily in the five plenary talks.

Please note that the conference is not limited to multilingualism issues
related specifically to the Nordic/Scandinavian context or languages, nor is
it exclusive to researchers active in the Nordic countries/Scandinavia. NCB12
welcomes submissions from anywhere in the world, on any multilingualism
context, involving any languages.

The official language of the conference will be English.


2nd Call for Papers:

EXTENDED ABSTRACT DEADLINE:

January 15, 2020

We are inviting proposals for presentations at The 12th Nordic Conference on
Bilingualism (NCB12), to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, June 10-12, 2020. The
conference is organized by the Centre for Research on Bilingualism, and the
venue will be Campus Frescati, Stockholm University.

PLENARY SPEAKERS:

Kenneth Hyltenstam (Stockholm University, Sweden)
Brigitta Busch (University of Vienna, Austria)
Eric Pakulak (University of Oregon, USA, and Stockholm University, Sweden)
Gabrielle Hogan-Brun (University of Bristol, UK)
Panos Athanasopoulos (Lancaster University, UK)

SUBMISSIONS:

Submissions for oral presentations, posters, and colloquia that directly or
indirectly address the theme are particularly encouraged, although papers that
do not are just as welcome. Submissions may cover (any combination of)
sociolinguistic, educational-linguistic, structural-linguistic,
psycholinguistic, and neurolinguistic perspectives on multilingualism.
Linguistic aspects may include (but are not limited to) phonetic,
phonological, morphological, syntactic, lexical, semantic, pragmatic, and
discourse domains of multilingualism, and submissions may deal with language
perception and/or production, as well as spoken, written, and/or signed modes
of multilingualism, in contexts of (for example) simultaneous and sequential
bilingual development, child and adult first, second, third, or heritage
language acquisition, learning, teaching, and use, as well as aspects of
language attrition, loss, maintenance, reactivation, and revitalization. We
are aiming for a broad representation of (combinations of) methodological
approaches, ranging from experimental designs and brain imaging techniques to
linguistic anthropology and ethnography.

The presentations are requested in three formats: (1) oral presentations in
parallel sessions, (2) posters, and (3) colloquia. These may or may not
address the general conference theme.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS:

Abstracts not exceeding 300 words (references excluded) and stating the name
and affiliation of all authors should be submitted by email no later than 15
January 2020. Papers will be allowed 20 minutes + 5 minutes for discussion.

POSTERS:

Abstracts not exceeding 300 words (references excluded) and stating the name
and affiliation of all authors should be submitted by email no later than 15
January 2020. Final posters should have the size A0 or A1. Posters will be
available throughout the conference. Slots will be allotted for presentation
during coffee breaks.

COLLOQUIA:

Proposals for special colloquia (or panels/symposia/workshops/roundtables
etc.) for up to 6 x 30 min. papers are welcome. A motivated introduction to
the workshop theme not exceeding 400 words (references excluded) plus 100-word
abstracts (references excluded) for each planned contribution to the workshop,
should be submitted by email no later than 15 January 2020. The name(s) and
affiliation(s) of the colloquium organizer(s) and of each speaker should be
included in the submission.
