What happened with ia.wikipedia pages?

Hi, 
Checking over the wiki-stat pages on
meta I noticed that the ia.wikipedia seems
to have gone down by 2K worth of articles...
Notice for comparison the ia. and it. wiki's
October 20 2003 / ia: 4233 / it: 4206
October 25 2003 / ia: 2610 / it: 4278
What happened between 10/20 and 10/25
that caused such drastic reduction?

If anyone has an idea I'd appreciate it.
