Re: request for deletion for other language- wikipedias - clarification

You mean that the trademark owners are the prefectures, I suppose.
(if the image hasn't been actually drawn by someone at the prefectures, the
prefectures cannot have copyright (eg: authoring) right on that particular
pictures; they can however have trademark right (eg: a right to tell what
kind of use the image can or cannot be put to).

It also seems to me that, while the Wikipedia text must be under GFDL, it
is not a requirement for the images; they must at least be freely usable
and copiable (at least in association of the article they belong to).

I suppose that is to avoid use of them as showing some kind of prefectural
backing, when that is not the case.
However, in a list of prefectures, with data about them, their logos
fit perfectly there.
Maybe permission could be requested;
and a note like this could be added to the images:

   rights of use of this image belong to xxxx prefecture;
   they can be used for Wikipedia only to illustrate articles about
   the Japanese xxxx prefecture.


What do you think ?
