There is nothing wrong with the current arrangement. Nobody ever suggested that country domains replace the current arrangement. They are just a supplementary nicety, and are especially useful for the many-to-many mapping between countries and languages. For example, one country many languages: (wikipedia.be) Belgium = Dutch, French, German (wikipedia.ch) Switzerland = French, German, Italian (wikipedia.in) India = English, Hindi, Tamil (wikipedia.my) Malaysia = Malay, Chinese, Tamil, English Or one language, many countries: French (wikipedia.ca, wikipedia.fr, wikipedia.be, etc) Malay (wikipedia.my, wikipedia.id) Tamil (wikipedia.my, wikipedia.in, wikipedia.lk) Also, other good thing about country domains are that 2) people know where to look 3) it communicates the message "this is *your* wikipedia" One good counter-argument for is that www.wikipedia.org fills #2 perfectly and that country domains are redundant. I propose that they redirect and that www.wikipedia.org should be smart enough to display all the languages used in that country. -- Eric Kow http://www.loria.fr/~kow PGP Key ID: 08AC04F9 Merci de corriger mon français. _______________________________________________ Intlwiki-l mailing list [email protected] http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/intlwiki-l
