Error when publishing to Docker registry: 413 Request Entity Too Large

I'm trying to publish a Docker image at
https://docker-registry.wikimedia.org/ following the instructions at Deploying
services to production
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/GitLab/Workflows/Deploying_services_to_production>.
It looks like the image builds as it should, but then there's an error (full

As I read it this means the resulting Docker image is to big to be
published. If that's the case, what is the size limit? According to `docker
images` locally the image is 9.27GB, which I suppose is quite big. I don't
have enough experience with Docker to know what's reasonable.
