IPDPS 2026 Program, Keynotes, Panel, & More
40th IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium
May 25–29, 2026 • New Orleans, USA www.ipdps.org
------------------------------------
The 40th IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium
(IPDPS 2026) will be held in New Orleans, USA, May 25–29, 2026, with
workshops and tutorials on May 25–26 and the main technical program on
May 27–29. Here are the latest highlights as we approach the conference:
Conference Program
The week kicks off with two days of workshops and tutorialscovering
topics ranging from in-network computing with SmartNICs and
high-performance deep learning training, to building scalable agentic
systems for science and CXL emulation at hyperscale. Eighteen workshops
are scheduled across the two days.
Paper sessions span six tracks— ML/AI, Architecture, Systems & Software,
Algorithms, Applications, and Measurement & Experimentation — with
strong representation in LLM inference and training, graph algorithms,
federated learning, data compression, quantum computing, and
energy-efficient HPC.
The conference concludes with a Banquet on Thursday evening and Awards &
IPDPS'27 Announcement on Friday morning.

Panel: How Long Should a Supercomputer Live?
Tuesday, May 26 • 5:00 PM – 6:10 PM
With the end of Moore's and Koomey's laws, rising hardware costs,
environmental scrutiny, and geopolitical pressures on supply chains, the
long-standing HPC tradition of replacing supercomputers every few years
deserves a hard look. This panel explores the economics, sustainability,
and practical realities of extending the life of supercomputers —
drawing on real-world experiences from Summit@ORNL, Sierra@LLNL, and
Fugaku@RIKEN — and examines the challenges and opportunities this
creates for researchers and operators alike.
Panelists:
•Al Geist, Oak Ridge National Laboratory — Former CTO of the Oak Ridge
Leadership Computing Facility and the DOE Exascale Computing Project.
•Judith Hill,Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory — Deputy Principal
Associate Director for HPC, leading all aspects of Livermore Computing's
mission.
• Fumiyoshi Shoji,RIKEN — Division Director for operations and computer
technologies at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science, home of Fugaku.
