Most collaborative software in open source is server side software, with
a common browser for access, not client side. Try www.sourceforge.net
and then type in collab for a search string. You will find two major
patterns: LAMP/P(Linux, Apache, MySQL/PostgresQL/PHP/Perl/python and
Java. For small sites with less than 10 servers and less than 1000
clients I prefer LAMP/P. For larger installations, with the prospects
of customization, Java my scale slightly better. Yahoo and Google
areexamples of LAMP systems.

Currently I am writing a book: Tranforming Small Businesses, examining
and evaluating the top ten Open Systems in each of the various business
categories such as Project Managemetn, Collaboration, CRM/ERP,
e-commerce, etc. If there are any folks interested in "collaborating"
in the writing in one of these areas, please let me know.
