Please pardon my interruption...as you probably know, we at Red Hat have
reached the end of our patience wrt SCO's legal schenanigans and have
filed a lawsuit against them (see
http://www.redhat.com/about/presscenter/2003/press_sco.html).  More to
the point, we're inviting all interested parties to join in whatever
form of support (financial, moral, legal, ethical) they choose to
provide.  If you feel, as we do, that SCO should be removed from its
position as a potential obstacle preventing users from enjoying the
software freedoms that we have all worked so hard to secure, now is the
time to be heard!

Our CEO, Matthew Szulik, is delivering a keynote at Linux World Expo in
San Francisco on Tuesday, August 5, and if you can make a clear
statement of support and/or commitment of support for our efforts in
this case (such as "we are very happy to see Red Hat taking a positive
step to clear the legal air surrounding the Linux kernel" or "we intend
to contribute to the cause" or even "heck, we'll put in $10M of our own

please contact me anyway--this is a real problem which can be greatly
solved by a sufficiently large community effort.

I intend, tonight, to write a larger call to action on the
http://www.redhat.com website, but wanted to seed that call with a
personal appeal to each of you--the teachers, the innovators, the
advocates, the venture capitalists, the executives, and the community
members who all have a stake in seeing software freedom flourish in the
software industry.  In the words of Eric Raymond, let's win this one so
convincingly that only a company more desperate and clueless than SCO
would ever try this sort of maneuver ever again.

might be also be inclined to participate in some way, shape, or form.
