A large amount of information, in the form of documents, mail messages, w=

postings, bug tracking records, source code files (including comments), C=

and Subversion records, etc. is generated or exchanged by users and=20
developers during the life-cycle of any software development F/OSS projec=
t.=20
The QualiPSo Activity 4, Documentation and Information Management, is foc=
used=20
on research and development of tools that enable to manage and exploit=20
correlation between all items of information that are commonly produced i=
n an=20
F/OSS project.=20

Main topics to be covered during the Workshop
---------------------------------------------=20
The target audience of the workshop are researchers and developers, both =
from=20
the industry and the academia interested in Information and Documentation=
=20
Management in F/OSS projects.

The main goal is to gather industrial requirements for information manage=
ment=20
in Open Source projects so any participation related to this goal like=20
current practices and tools about this field are the focus.
It is important for our vision to have an active participation to collect=
=20
requirements about Open Source Software Information management, or better=
 the=20
possibility to express personal opinions about this topic compiling a=20
questionnaire that we will provide during the workshop.

The workshop will be on 7th February 2007. The participation proposal are=
=20
expected to be received until 20 January. The final Workshop agenda will =
be=20
published on 1st February.

The participation contents should be in any Open Format Document, like fo=

General Intro to QualiPSo project:
----------------------------------=20
QualiPSo is an Integrated Project (IP) which aims at making a major=20
contribution to the state of the art and practice of Open Source Software=
.=20
The goal of the QualiPSo integrated project is to define and implement=20
technologies, procedures and policies to leverage the Open Source Softwar=
e=20
development current practices to sound and well recognized and establishe=
d=20
industrial operations. The budget for the project is over 10 millions eur=
os=20
and more than twenty companies and research groups will work in the proje=
ct=20
during the four years and a half of duration.

The project brings together software companies, application solution=20
developers and research institutions and is driven by the need for having=
 for=20
OSS software the appropriated level of trust which makes OSS development =
an=20
industrial and wide accepted practice. To reach this goal the QualiPSo=20
project will define, deploy and launch the QualiPSo Competence Centres in=
=20
Europe (4), Brazil (1) and China (1) all of the making use of the QualiPS=
o=20
Factory.

With the economy moving towards new open models, the potential impact of=20
QualiPSo will be across the entire chain of software system development,=20
proposing an integrated approach along many dimensions:

	* technically, through a focus on complementary problem areas addressed =
by=20
	  strong research teams,

	* industrially, through application partners from different sectors who =
share=20
	  a common vision for the potential of services,

	* managerially, through the creation of a strong management structure ba=
sed=20
	  on an entrepreneurial company,

	* internationally with partners from different countries coming from=20
	  different continents,

	* individually, through strong existing working relationships between=20
	  partners.

The need to sustain and advance the QualiPSo solutions in the future requ=
ires=20
an open sustainability approach. QualiPSo is open in the following ways:
its use of open standards and the open source software development approa=
ch
it is based on an open community to enlarge and enforce its resources and=
=20
input from researchers, scientists, art professionals and users
it is open to expansion, by inserting new application scenarios and other=
=20
project results in a "plug and play" manner.
