leadership into open-source projects

Dear community,

    I'm interested going deeper on the leadership subject concerning the open-source development; The rough idea would be to frame the figure of the leader into these communities - trying to understand what are the conditions that sustain the leader status over time,  what are the functions of a leader into these groups/communities, what are the conditions under which the leader status is no more recognized by the group, how much is "distributed" this role [...]. 

By now I'm a little bit  fasting concerning the "leadership" subject, so I would appreciate if anyone could come up suggesting some good books/references about the fundamentals of the topic (that you consider worthy :)
