I watched a very interesting Talk by Stuart Armstrong, at the Oxford physics department - von Neumann probes, Dyson spheres, exploratory engineering and the Fermi paradox. I am almost completely convinced that powerful electromagnetic ramps ( mass drives) are the future of human space flight.
