Dear OROCOS partners,

The EURON AdCom has decided which interest groups will get funding for
the first year of EURON. Unfortunately, OROCOS was apparently a bit
too ``adventurous'' for many...

No problem, for the time being. We still have a chance with the IST
programme. And after all, I am convinced we can do decent work without
funding too.

Dear SIG proposers and AdCom members

The votes for the sponsorship of SIGS is in for 2001. In all honesty
people were not at all in agreement regarding sponsorship. Some groups
created much variation.

The ranking is listed below

1. Sensor Systems
2. Mobile Navigation
3. Manipulation, ...
4. Medical Robotics
5. Skill learning / Multi-Modal Interaction (combined)
6. OROCOS
7. Manufacturing
8. Telerobotics

For the top one it was felt that the ambitions are high and they all
provide clearly visible results in terms of deliverables. In addition
the topics are methodlogical rather than application/area
oriented. For the bottom two it was felt that the deliverables are not
clearly described / identified.

There was no consensus at all for the OROCOS proposal. It was awarded
both highest and lowest grades (on a grading scale of 1-10 it had a
standard deviation of 3.3).

EURON will thus sponsor the top 5 SIGS for the year 2001.

For the coordinators please remember that you can only count on
sponsorship for a year. A maximum of 1 man month can be spent on
coordination. The cost for coordination is limited to a maximum of 5
Keuro out of a total budget of 16 KEuro. The remaining 11 KEuro is to
be spent on travel .. for the actual activities. The remaining funds
cannot be spent on man-power! I need a signed contract with each of
you to transfer funds to you and at the end of the year you have to
submit a cost summary to me incl documentation for activities and the
promised set of deliverables. Please remember to specify EURON
sponsorship for all organised events/activities.

Your comments, observations, ... are of course most welcome.

I am looking forward to an interesting set of activities. Please keep
me posted on activities etc. Please remember also that I would like to
be on the mailing list for all the relevant interest group to have an
opportunity to coordinate etc. across SIGS.

Sincerely

Henrik
