Orocos Open Source license: EU wants GPL/LGPL...

One important thing I forgot in the previous email...

The EU officer has made it very clear that they want their funding to
be used for software with a GPL or LGPL license (in order to reduce
the risk of having companies use the results for proprietary-only
products).  GPL or ``compatible'' that is, although no legally binding
definition of ``GPL compatible'' exists...

The consequence is that, for example, BSD licenses will not be
accepted.

Strictly speaking these requirements hold only for the software
created with European funding, i.e., by the people to be employed by
the funded partners. Of course, it has repercussions for the whole
code base. Anyway, everybody who contributes new modules is free to
release it under any license he/she likes, but let's not make the
licensing management too complicated, please  :-)
