Hi all I've recently finished developing a new map editing application called MapViewer, which works with maps from a number of robot simulators - Saphira, Player/Stage, Carmen and Beesoft are the currently supported simulator map types supported. Support for Saphira includes .wld files, both the type from the Mapper program and the standard type used in the simulator. It can also edit 2D laser maps. It can also edit/analyse Carmen and Beesoft 2D grid maps, as well as Player/Stage PNM grid maps. MapViewer works with both Occupancy Grid Maps and Vector Maps (Saphira maps) simultaneously, and can convert from one to the other. It has a number of useful features, such as converting an occupancy grid into a .wld file using two different line fitting algorithms. Since it can also import image files (bmp, jpg and pnm), you can scan architectural drawings, import them and convert it to a .wld file in a few seconds. Alternatively, if you have a grid map from another source (a good source is the Radish robotic data set repository at radish.sourceforge.net), you can convert it into a .wld file to use with Saphira. MapViewer also has a number of other handy functions, all of which are detailed on it's webpage, http://mapviewer.skynet.ie MapViewer is free to download and use. It currently runs natively on Windows, but can be used on Linux using Wine. Any and all feedback is appreciated - this is an ongoing project I'm working on to keep myself amused, so any ideas you may have for an addition to the application would be appreciated.
