Dear Orocos colleagues,

Due to popular demand: some `inside' information about hotels in
Leuven... :-)

The cheapest, simple but decent hotels are those near the railway station:
Industrie, La Royale, and Mille Colonnes. Their price is about 40
Euros for a single room. More expensive (100 Euros) is the
Binnenhof hotel <http://www.hotelbinnenhof.be/>.

These hotels are convenient because they are at about 100 meters from
the railway station, there is a huge underground parking lot, and you
can catch the bus to our campus every half an hour.

The closest hotel to our meeting place is the Begijnhof Congreshotel
 <http://begijnhofcongreshotel.be/en/index.html>
It's (significantly) over 100 Euros. You reach the meeting place by
walking through the campus park in front of the hotel, or catching the
bus at the large nearby crossroads (`Naamse poort', to the left if you
leave the hotel).

The most convenient bus is `2 Campus'. You should get off at the one
but last stop, but the terminus is also only 200 meters from our
building, Celestijnenlaan 300. The ride takes about 25 minutes from
the railway station, 15 minutes from the Begijnhof Congreshotel. A
single ride is 50 franks, but you can buy a card for ten rides at 300
franks. (I will buy everything that you have left on your bus card,
because I use the bus quite frequently.) You pay at the driver (most
of them understand English reasonably well).

If you come by car, the AC Hotel
 <http://www.acrh.be/ac-frans/h-leuvenfr.html>
is convenient: it's next to the highway Koln-Brussels, and about five
kilometers from our campus.

All these hotels are within walking distance from the historic centre,
except the AC Hotel.

There are some more hotels on the www.leuven.be website; their
price and accessibility features are in between those of the
abovementioned hotels. The website has also a detailed city map. You
find the exact position of the meeting place by filling in
`Celestijnenlaan' in the `Straatnaam' field. This is a rather long
street: our building is near the crossing with the `de Croylaan'.
I've made an overview map available on
 <http://www.mech.kuleuven.ac.be/~bruyninc/map-pma.gif>
The blue square is the railway station (more or less); the red circle
is the meeting place.

Hope this helps a bit :-)

I don't mind make reservations, but most of the hotels accept
electronic or fax reservations.

Best regards,

Herman
