Hi all, I've been working on packaging Stage for Fedora, and I'm happy to announce that the Stage 3.2.2 package has been approved. Packages are going to be available for Fedora 11 onward, and should show up in the Testing repositories sometime tonight or tomorrow. After about a week or so, barring any bugs, they'll be pushed to the Stable repositories. Once this happens, Stage will be available to install through the normal package management tools (PackageKit and yum). Since Player 3.0.1 is also available in the Fedora repositories as of a month ago, the Player plugin to Stage is provided (in the stage-playerplugin package). For Fedora, Player and Stage have been patched to look for plugin libraries in /usr/lib/player and /usr/lib/stage respectively, in addition to all of their other search paths. Stage installs stageplugin.so to /usr/lib/player, and it installs its included behavior plugins to /usr/lib/stage. This change was made to keep private, dlopened libraries off of the system's library search path. Most programs that use plugins use this method to install their plugin libraries. It also helps maintain compatibility with configuration files (by avoiding having to prepend "lib" to all of the library filenames if they're put in /usr/lib). Once Stage is in the stable repositories, I'll update the wiki's installation instructions page to reflect the procedure for installing Player and Stage in Fedora.
