Very sad indeed. 

And a bit confusing that Canada keeps hosting those international allround and sprint championships, when they are not (?) interested in competing in the same events... There are no national championships either, I gather. 

Anyway, as you mention, the funding is linked to single distances in many countries, which is a big shame. Speed skating should promote its advantages, not work against it. Many sports have single distances, not many have the allround champions.
