Hi again, and I'm at the outset 6 months away from bankruptcy.

The job market is improving, for some; but for others like me, it has rendered me virtually unemployable.  For the past 6 and a half years, I have been unable to get a job after I was laid off from a commercial lines insurance company in Philadelphia.  Despite sending over 1,000 resumes, the 10 interviews in those 6 years has reaffirmed my belief that companies don't care how long you devoted your entire adult life, in my case, to making things better.
I have 2 strikes on me already; that I chose not to go to college (because I didn't want to be in debt for decades, perhaps), and that I am 54.  But I also have a life savings that doesn't give a gods damn whether or not I'm employed.  It only cares that bills are paid.  No matter if you're on the brink of ruin as I am.   I am down to less than $6,000 in life savings after I had to cash in 2 IRA's, dividends from my life insurance policy, my dad's life insurance policy (he passed away in 2012).  I was at 115,000 in savings 6 years ago.  I know I still have a lot to offer an insurance company in Philadelphia and its immediate suburbs. But I also know that at this time, employers look at my resume and determine that my adult life-long experience as a commercial lines underwriting assistant doesn't matter to them.  I don't know how to convince them otherwise.
I dread and am devastated that I have to go this route. But I've got no choice if I can't even get in the door of employers who refuse to give me even the courtesy of a person to person interview. What's worse? I have osteo-arthritic knees and a wrenched back. I've always been a commercial lines underwriting assistant. And if this fails, then I will be homeless.  I need help, and if it comes, you will have saved an ordinary guy who has had almost 3/5ths of a decade of terrible luck.  You will have sent me a lifeline for me to remain in the house I came home to after I was born 54 years ago. And the best thing that you will give me?  Time.  Time to turn things around.
I feel most toxic right now.  No one wants to employ me.  Even the Platform to Employment that was featured on 60 Minutes a few years ago, which had a Philadelphia branch open up 2 years back, has no plans to have a second endeavor here.  I hope and I ask for your help in getting me back on my feet until I can get a job.  I am out of options.  There is nothing left for me to do but pray that the kindness of others can sustain me.
Take care,Paul
