Except for the 500 women, all Dutch skaters should be considered as serious medalwinners.
Does not leave the fact that Carlijn is maybe the most surprising gold medal winner from the Netherlands. Maybe Annie Borckinck tops her.
Jac. Orie wins, as coach, gold for the 5th time in a row.
2002: Gerard van Velde, 2006 Marianne Timmer, 2010 Mark Tuitert, 2014 Stefan Groothuis and now Carlijn Achtereekte.
The last three maybe considered as “children” of the Deventer ice rink; De Scheg. All three were born within 20k of De Scheg.
BTW also the breeding track of the Mulder brothers, Jan Smeekens, Lotte van Beek and former star Erben Wennemars

She qualified for the Dutch team, which always stands for good quality... She was ranked no. 9 on the 3000, no 7. of those participating today, according to "Skøyteranking":
