Re: ecovillage and sustainability

Re. the size issue:

It takes all kinds of villages to raise a child and restore the Earth.

And I really hope we don't get into a "size competition" issue here.  We
need better language for these things, a larger number of terms rather
than conflict over a smaller number of terms.  For example, eco-house,
eco-neighborhood, eco-enclave, eco-hamlet, ecovillage, ecocity; defined
respectively as "from X to Y numer of people organized according to a
set of bylaws or common principles related to sustainability."  And also
to recognize that each person who significantly reduces their impact is
doing their share under the circumstances they find themselves in.

Some people simply do not have the financial means to gain access to the
most complete solutions, so they do what they can, and that should be
welcomed with open arms rather than subtly looked down upon.  All
wholehearted good-faith efforts are "equal in spirit" even though they
may not be equal in kilowatt hours, pounds of CO2 saved, or other external
metrics.  Every piece counts; every person, every acre, every gallon of
water; every step forward; adds up as part of the Whole.
