Dan's right on, NVC (non violent communication) has no spiritual or
religious agenda. It looks hard at communication habits and strategies that
lead to and perpetuate conflict and puts forward strategies and styles that
do not promote or sustain conflict.

The weakness inherant in NVC is that for it to really work well both
sides/all participants need to buy in to the basic premises and most
importantly must WANT a better relationship. But even if only one side buys
in the communications equation is radically changed for the better.

An important element that NVC brings to one's attention right away is how
much of our personal communications style is based on unexamined habit (bad
ones at that!) rather than appropriate goal oriented intention.

Unfortunately it generally takes a crisis or organizational impass to "get
people to the table" to learn and utilize NVC. If a day comes when NVC
principles are taught in public schools and colleges as an integral
component of communications studies, one could expect significant social
change as a result.
