Re: Seeking a model organic farming community

Actually, to name one example, asian cultures farmed sustainably for
millenia. See the classic Farmers of Forty Centuries, by F.H. King. As for
planning a new town there are disturbing questions. Will it pave over
fertile farmland? How much concrete for paving and storm sewers? How much
fossil fuel for its electrical needs? Will it be designed like almost all
other towns for automobiles? How far will people travel to work, using
fossil fuels? Will sewage systems use up clean drinking water? Will
greywater be recycled to grow fruit or nut trees? Will xeriscaping be
planned into it to save water? Will food be produced locally or will they
have to keep buying groceries from hundreds of miles away?  And can any
town be designed to be a model of environmental sustainability? My
suggestion would be no new town at all, but refurbish existing dwellings to
save resources.
