West of Maitreya Ecovillage in Eugene, Oregon is a culdesac called West
8th Place. You enter it off of Chambers between West 8th Ave and West
Broadway. For years it was kind of marginalized and low-income, but
recently the entire thing got sold to some builders that are renovating
the houses with the intention of selling them.

I would LOVE to see a bunch of people sympathetic to the goals and
values of Maitreya EcoVillage purchase the various houses and do a
permaculture makeover of the entire place. I even expect that the paved
area of the culdesac could be reduced to allow for a huge urban garden
shared by the dozen or so dwellings (six duplexes) surrounding it. This
could end up constituting an entire new western half of Maitreya
EcoVillage sharing in the straw bale community building, group dinners
and other amenities.

Apparently the realtor who will be handling some of the sales is Sherman
Terry. ([email protected]) Or just show up and check the place out
presently. Most of the units are currently under rennovation and you
can expect to find the some of the temporary owners busy working on them
presently.

This is a huge opportunity that I hope some of you will at least explore
- if not act on - thus creating a wonderful new Eugene permaculture
enclave. To learn more about Maitreya EcoVillage please go to

Excitedly,
