I have now tried with a new profile. New address, fake name and fake UA.
The first try with a fake addres failed because a real one was expected.
That suggests, that gmane will send a mail and request an answer. To
confirm, that the person trying to post is genuine.

Too long since I first used gmane. I do not remember the procedure then.

I did *not* get a mail from gmane and my post did not appear an
gmane.test. Still, there was a fake name with a real address, so I
tested that with

mail "fake name <real@address>"

and this test succeeded. I got the mail.

There is now a strong suspicion that there is something wrong on
gmane.io regarding new posters.
