What is supposed to happen is this: The ellipsis character (Unicode codepoint U+2026) is supposed to be generated first, then at the last stage, character translation, U+2026 is mapped to three dots: "...". But this works for me. For example, the ellipsis in the utf8trans.1 man page from the docbook2X distribution is indeed "..." three dots. Note that doc/charsets.xml uses a cmdsynopsis with <arg rep="repeat">...</arg>/ Perhaps in your case there was a problem invoking the character translation. Could you elaborate on what the commands you used to convert your man pages?
