Right, vim supports utf-8.

Actually E2 80 A6 is the correct UTF-8 representation (i.e.
ASCII-compatible) of the Unicode character U+2026.

May I ask you to try this:

Take the UTF-8 roff file (i.e. the one with E2 80 A6 in it),
and run

utf8trans /usr/share/docbook2X/charmaps/roff.charmap ls.1 > ls.1.new

Does the ellipsis character E2 80 A6 get turned into the ASCII version "..."
in the file ls.1.new? It should.

Anyway, I will download the RPM package, and investigate too.

The character translation of course is supposed to have happened to
the roff file,
unless the option --encoding=utf-8 is set, in which case, well, you get utf-8.
However, the bug / problem is that E2 80 A6 should automatically get
mapped to "..."
when that option is not set.

By the way, if you only have a few small man pages you want to convert,
and don't want to wait until this problem is solved completely,
you can use the online converter at http://docbook2x.sourceforge.net/demo/.
Character translation works right there; I've just verified.
