Dollar sign disappears

Hi,

Does the dollar sign have any meaning inside double asterisks in rst?
 I want the following in bold:

**US $25**

The HTML is rendered as:

<p><strong>US 5<p><strong>

Where did the $2 disappear? Am I missing something?
