I've been pondering whether to use the trick you mention, but on balance I think I'll just leave the code so that it emits the error message, and put a comment in the code. There are already more unnatural comment structures than I like, merely for the purpose of appeasing the doxygen parser, so I'm disinclined to add further pinchbeck commentary.
