instructions for Debian builds

Hi David,

one quick question: you mention in the installation instructions
(install.html) that Debian users should configure the packages using
./configure --prefix=/usr. Is this indeed the intended location for
non-packaged software? I'm only a part-time Debian user, but I was
under the impression that /usr holds the packaged stuff, whereas
/usr/local holds your own builds. Is there an official Debian policy
in place for this issue?

regards,
Markus
