I went back reading the code. Looks like refdbd already works the way
it should. Earlier versions of refdbd checked at startup whether or
not the main database was present and intact. I've moved this check to
the child, so all the parent currently checks is the presence of the
requested driver. If the requested driver can be loaded successfully,
it is possible to start the daemon without further setup. It will send
an error message to each client complaining about the missing main
database until you create it.

Just to make sure: does refdbd run, i.e. is there a refdbd process
running after the Debian and Ubuntu package installations even if it
returns only the error message mentioned above?

Markus
