Re: Correspondence: Coding Postscripts in Multiple Hands?

Thanks for the helpful suggestions and discussion, Stefan, Peter, and Lou! (And Stefan, thanks hugely for adding that example!) Stefan, your use of <addSpan spanTo=“somewhere” hand="#someone”/> makes sense to me for the much-longer-than-phrase-level material we’re working with, so I may go with that. By far the easier solution, though, for coding and processing, would be to just put @hand on <postScript>. 

Lou, before we read your post on Tuesday, my student and I decided our makeshift solution was to use @resp on postScript, so we were thinking along the same lines there! I’d rather, for processing purposes, use @hand or <handShift/> or something explicitly to do with changing hands. We’re going to be running into this situation pretty frequently in our project, and I suspect it’s common in other projects with correspondence, too—the situation in which a writer finishes a letter, and a second writer in the house seizes the opportunity to write a few lines or a couple of paragraphs in the remaining space on the paper. If anyone has tried alternative encoding to what we’re discussing here, please share!
