In manuscript copies, how to encode the date of origin of the original?

Dear all

We are TEI-encoding medieval law manuscripts, making use of all the
elements of the "msdescription" module. I have a question about how to
encode dates related to those manuscripts.

For original manuscripts, I have encoded the date as follows (showing only
the relevant part of the header):

         <sourceDesc>
            <msDesc>
               <msIdentifier>
                  <repository>Sample Holdings</repository>
                  <idno>ex12345</idno>
               </msIdentifier>
               <history>
                  <origin>
                     <origDate>1589</origDate>
                  </origin>
               </history>
            </msDesc>
         </sourceDesc>

But for manuscripts that are *copies* of older manuscripts, we have the
following requirement: we need to encode both the date of origin of the
copy and the date of origin of the original that the copy refers to. I am
not sure how to encode both in the same header.

Hence my question:

While encoding a copy of an original manuscript, how to properly represent
both the date of creation of the copy and the original manuscript? Both
should be present in our TEI documents, but clearly separated from each
other.
