Bug staying unassigned?

Hi,

I have reported a bug [1] on batik in June. Today this bug still seems to
be not even verified. Is the issue tracker on issues.apache.org inactive?
Should I post such bug reports to this mailing list?

The reported bug is a major problem to me. It would be nice to know how I
can at least work around this problem.
