Conceptually, it seems very similar. Technically, it looks like DFDL is
syntactically an alternative to iXML for describing a format. But it
might be possible to translate an DFDL schema (with the right
annnotations) into an iXML grammar. Then Saxon+CoffeeSacks[1] would be a
quick and easy implementation.
