The answer to that very likely depends on how many nodes you have, what =
kind of indexes you have, and what kind of queries you're running.  In =
my experience, accessing nodes later in a large document using the =
structural index is much slower than accessing nodes earlier in the same =
document.  I demonstrated that for queries using the preceding and =
