This is really confusing.  I know others have written C++ wrappers; are none 
of those suitable?  Though I've not used C++ for many years, I can't imagine 
that a C++ wrapper library is difficult to write.  Applications using the 
wrapper certainly wouldn't need to deal with C functions.

Perhaps it would help if you described what you're having trouble with?
