Question about expat version and library version ?

I use one tool to analyse some library package , and I found that
expat is not like some other packages.
The expat version doesn't keep the same with the library version.
For exmaple,
In expat-2.0.1, the library is libexpat.so.1.5.2.
Could someone explain it please?
