Belated introduction: Indexing

    I wrote a rant for my weblog yesterday that I meant to write some time
ago (minus the ranty bits) and use as an introduction to this list -- but as
it happened, I was out of town when the introduction wave hit.

    Another listmember saw the rant and asked me to post it to the list.
Rather than that -- it *is* a weblog rant, and thus not my most toned
writing -- I'll post the link; follow at own risk, apologies if the link's
line-length runs over.
