Thanks a lot, Bertrand! Very helpful hint. Just running "xhost +" command resolved the problems for now. Of course, I will need better isolation from the system environment - may be that toolkit you advised me or something else... Incidentally, I am curious how FOP handles this - never had this problem with FOP pdf conversion.
