  doesn't work on Unix machine

I'm trying to insert multiple spaces in my rtf 
document. The only way I found to achieve that is to 
put multiple &#160; It worked fine when I tested it 
on Windows 2000 and Windows NT but on Unix 
machine all &#160; are shown as question 
marks: ???. Does anybody knows any possible 
solution for this problem?
