The RtfStringConverter class (in src/org/jfor/jfor/rtflib/rtfdoc) includes 
code to convert the \t character (ASCII 09) to an RTF "\tab" code, so &#009; 
should work. Otherwise you might need to do some debugging of this class to 
find out why.
