I looked into X# and found some fascinating developments.
The language name changed to Xen and now to Cw or Comega
and will likely be absorbed into the next version of
C#. The language itself is tokenized text (not XML) but seems
to combine XML/XSLT and SQL data structures internally (as
opposed to an API). Microsoft has released a stand-alone
compiler:

Another interesting find (ECMAScript for XML (E4X)

I believe Cw will have a huge impact (perhaps indirectly)
on future XML/relational DB development. The advantage of MLML,
as I see it, is to achieve language independance so that
UML, documentation, compilation, runtime, and development
tools can interact more seemlessly without lock-in.

Mapping Java and o:xml via MLML is a very good start. However,
The Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) already maps to a
common base for a greater number of languages, albeit binary and
platform
dependant (for all practical purposes, Mono and dotGNU, aside).

Running Java on the CLI and/or IL code on the
Java Runtime is an obvious conclusion. I have no doubt that
Sun and Microsoft have already done this in the back-office
and have not released their respective version purely for
marketing or legal reasons. The writing is on
the wall and someone will do it. The bottom line is that
the CLI is more powerful and generalized, while
Java has more market-share.

I believe MLML has to consider those factors to
avoid obselences before it is born. It might be
best to consider the ECMA CLI over Java.
Writing an XML schema for (a subset of?) CLI
code might be a good next step for MLML?:
