I've read the original article from Wilson a few months back:

Apparently it dates back to May of last year which just points out
to me how slashdot is constantly lowering its quality. The comments
on /. are also well-known for being totally useless. I don't even
read them anymore these days. I also just skimmed them quickly for
this article and it was all as expected. Mention anything related to
XML on /. and you will get told it's worthless. Actually a high portion
of the posters don't even read the article before posting an answer.
Just look at how many posts complained about having to edit XML by hand
in order to do programming in such a language and how Wilson _clearly_
points out that you're not supposed to do so in the first place.

Altogether it's good that the topic gets to a more mainstream audience,
however you shouldn't expect people to immediately jump at it and bring
along valuable information. I just hope for a few people out there to
actually read Wilson's article as I found it to be quite an eye-opener 
for myself. If the /. article accomplished that then it was worth the
trolls 'commenting' it.
