You should be able to load the o:XML schema [1] in XMLSpy to edit  
with on-the-fly schema validation. I've not used it myself, so I'd  
like to know how you get on with that if you try.
There are a couple of XML-oriented plugins for Eclipse, again I've  
not really used it.

I've developed a plugin for the ArborText Epic editor for a similar  
project, it could be easily adapted for o:XML if there's demand. The  
plugin provides a menubar with validation, compilation and program  
execution options. I personally don't like Epic much, so haven't  
pursued this further.

I tend to use emacs myself, with James Clarks brilliant nXML mode  
[2]. With the o:XML RelaxNG schema [3] loaded, you can automatically  
close end tags and find markup completions, and immediately spot  
validation errors. Brilliant. There's an article [4] available from  
O'Reilly. You can also easily add the o:XML schema to your nXML  
installation and have it load automatically - let me know if you want  
me to post instructions.
