Hmmm, good idea...

I have also written a XSLT transformation implementing the
simplification process:

http://downloads.xmlschemata.org/relax-ng/utilities/simplification.xsl

Each step is implemented as a XSLT mode and you can stop after 7.8 which
is the expansion of includes.
