Depends on where you have the definition set in the resin.conf:
<!-- creates the webapps directory for .war expansion -->
<web-app-deploy path="webapps"/>
...which is relative to ${server.root}.

So the server root is the deployment root?
So using your example if my SERVER_ROOT
is /var/www
will war files automatically get exploded in /var/www/webapps
or /var/www ?
