load balancing question

Hi I'm new to Resin, but I'm a little confused on redirection, what I need to
do is;

I want to redirect all request which are sent to front server to one of my
backend servers. This may not be servlet/jsp e.g. it maybe cgi or an exe 

I dont understand how the filtering is done,

e.g. 

http://frontend/request/test.exe

which will be sent to one of my backend servers

i.e

http://backend/request/test.exe

or 
http://backend/request/test.exe

I have setup the load balancing on the front end and backend but how do I
redirect these request (ie I dont have the code on the frontend) to the
backend servers?
