XML parsing generates a lot of temporary objects (mostly String). Not only these object creations reduce parsing speed but it can also lead to interminable pauses when garbage collection occurs. By slightly modifying the SAX2 interface, replacing String with the more generic CharSequence interface. It is possible to write significantly faster parsers. To illustrate this point, I wrote a XML RealtimeParser (SAX2-like) available at http://jade.dautelle.com Benchmark have shown this parser 2-3x faster than conventional SAX2 parser! If you have any question, do not hesitate to contact me. Regards.
