    Many of you will know Norm, who has had a high profile in the XML community for many years (and SGML before that). He's best known for his work on DocBook and XProc but he's had a finger in many other pies including long-term membership of the XSL working group (he was editor of the XDM specification), the XML Core Working Group, the W3C Technical Architecture Group, the initial specification work on JAXP, the Oasis/Apache catalog resolver, and specs such as XML Base. Norm is currently based in Swansea, Wales. I'm sure he will bring lots of innovative ideas to the Saxon product line, as well as continuing his work in the community.

    At the same time, John Lumley is ending his contract with Saxonica: he's said for a while that he wants to spend more time with his family and his model railway. But he's still full of ideas and enthusiasm. I suspect we haven't seen the last of him, and he's promised that he'll help us out with Saxon-JS issues if we need him.

    We're also currently looking for a replacement for Sue Schreiber, our marketing and commercial person, who has been doing a sterling job keeping the money coming in for more years than I can count. Most of her work probably isn't visible to the technical community, but without her patience negotiating the byzantine procurement processes of the mega-corporations that many of you work for, we wouldn't be here. If you know of anyone who is interested in stepping into her shoes, please let us know.

    As for me: I'm going to soldier on for a few years yet: I'm still enjoying it, I still have lots of ideas, and I'm still a lot younger than the next US President. Norm's arrival on the scene does mean, however, that the company is now going to be viable without me, and I hope that's a reassurance to the many businesses who have become critically dependant on our software and our support.
