If I recall the XML.COM? article, there is some kind of workaround. What do people think about the <ns> elements? I personally think they are the correct way to do things, but not really strongly. In particular, I think default (i.e., no prefix) Xpaths are a really dangerous idea. Also, I was introducing a <library> element into ISO Schematron which just brings in the declarations of a referenced schema holus bolus, including <ns> elements (duplicate prefix would be error). With <ns> this is trivially easy, but I suspect that it would be really complicated using xmlns declarations. Clarity welcome.
